Alexander Skarsgard
Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgard was born on August 25th, 1976 in Stockholms Ian, Sweden. Alexander is the oldest son of another famous Swedish actor, Stellan Skarsgard. Alexander has four younger brothers and one younger sister. His father Stellan was a struggling stage actor for most of Alexander’s younger years. He grew up in modest situations and in a working class neighborhood.
Alexander started his acting career at the young age of 8. He worked in films and Swedish television until he was 16 years old. He soon decided that maybe acting wasn’t the right fit for him. His mother was a doctor and Alexander decided to pursue an education instead. Being a somewhat rebellious teenager, instead of going to college, he joined the Swedish Navy. He used this time to decide what to do with his future.
After the military, Alexander studied at the Leads Metropolitan University. He later moved to New York and enrolled at the Marymount Manhattan College and studied theater. Due to a romance with a girl back in Sweden, Alexander only spent 6 months in New York before moving back to Sweden. The relationship ended shortly after but Alexander stayed in Sweden and began his acting career again. In 1999, Alexander was voted the most sexiest man in Sweden.
He began to act in many Swedish productions and became a star. He wanted to broaden his acting abilities and began acting outside of Sweden. After a visit to Los Angeles, Alexander had an agent and a part in the Ben Stiller comedy Zoolander-2001. Alexander once again went back to Sweden and starred in many more films including: Heartfelt 2004; Double Shift, The Last Drop, Om Sara 2005; Never Be Mine, Kill Your Darlings, Score, Exit 2006; Jarnets Anglar 2007 and Metropia in 2009.
Alexander got very lucky when in 2008, he was cast in the gripping HBO series Generation Kill. Alexander later went on to star as Eric Northman, a 1,000 year old Viking vampire in the cult hit True Blood series on HBO. The series is based on the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris and the show creator is Alan Ball. Alan Ball was the creator of another popular HBO series, Six Feet Under.
The True Blood series has definitely made Alexander a star and an opportunity to be on screen even more. He has more films coming out soon including Trust Me, 13, Beyond the Pole and Straw Dogs.
